After over four years, hints have been dropped that American rock band Fall Out Boy will be releasing new music sometime in 2023. This announcement came yesterday, October 18, 2022, in a Forbes article discussing an alternative music festival, ALTer EGO, taking place in Los Angeles, CA. Among other groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse, Fall Out Boy will be taking the stage to perform on January 14, 2023 (Forbes).

In the article, a quote from the Program Director for ALT 98.7 and Vice President of Rock and Alternative for iHeartMedia, Lisa Worden, discussed why she chose these groups for the show's lineup. The quote reads, "And then Fall Out Boy, who are gonna have new music in the new year." (Forbes).

The announcement of new music comes as a big surprise to Fall Out Boy fans after many believed the band would not be releasing new music anytime soon following a Rolling Stone podcast interview with Fall Out Boy's lead guitarist Joe Trohman (Rolling Stone Podcast). In the podcast, Trohman responds to the question about new Fall Out Boy music by generally saying that there was no plan for new music in the near future. After this interview was released, many fans took to social media to express their worry and sadness that the band may never make new music again.

With the announcement of new music, fans have instead now rejoiced and celebrated in excitement to hear what new music the band may release. The band's last album was their seventh studio album, MANIA, which was released in early 2018. The album received mostly positive reviews but was criticized for experimenting with a different sound than the band's typical rock and occasional pop sound.

Other than just new music and festival annoucment, on October 17, 2022, an unannounced concert for Fall Out Boy popped up on the Ticketmaster website. The concert listing had an event for the group planned for October 15, 2023, at the XFINITY Theatre in Hartford, CT. The listing has since been removed, but photos of the leak spread on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. No information or statements have been made about this leak.

The band's social media accounts and the members themselves have said nothing about the leak or the Forbes article as of now. Fans should keep an eye out for the band for new music coming soon and possibly a tour.
